Things to do

Hahei is a small place but action packed with activities for all ages. Whether you are into outdoor adventure or simply reading on the beach. – Hahei has something for you!

Cathedral Dove - Hahei Holiday Homes

Cathedral Cove

Accessible only on foot or by boat, famous Cathedral Cove is one of the “must visit” sites on the Coromandel Peninsula. The track begins at the northern end of Hahei. You can visit Cathedral Cove anytime. Due to increased traffic in Hahei village over summer, the Cathedral Cove Lookout car park (start of the track) is closed from 1st October to 30th April. Free parking is available at the entrance to Hahei Village, on your right hand side. From the village entrance car park, either walk via Hahei Beach or Hahei Village Town Centre, or use the Park and Ride shuttle bus to the top Cathedral Cove lookout (although you will miss Hahei Beach and the beautiful cliff walk). The Cathedral Cove Walk from the carpark at the Hahei Village Entry Car park on the outskirts of Hahei beach is approximately a 1.15 hrs walk. From the top lookout it is a 10 minute walk to Gemstone Bay Snorkel Trail, 20 min to Stingray Bay and approximately 45 mins one way to The Cove.

Hot water beach

This world famous beach at the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula contains two volcanic hot water springs that keep the water heated. From the sound of its surging waves to the fierce bite of hot sand underneath your bare feet at low tide, Hot Water Beach presents a landscape and an atmosphere like nowhere else. Visitors flock to the usually deserted Hot Water Beach two hours either side of low tide. The lure of hot water brings people in buses, camper vans, tour groups and rental vehicles. They pull into the recently expanded car parks with a mixture of excitement, fascination and anticipation on their faces.
